Cheap Eats: Taste Legend

Although Club Sandwich remains as strong as ever, some Fridays I still like to splurge a little and eat outside the office. Last Friday was the day before my birthday so I gathered a posse of my coworkers and we hit up Taste Legend (yes, that’s actually what it’s called), in the quadrant off Mountain St in Ultimo, just by work. I’ve been to Taste Legend a few times, yet every time I forget to take photos – so I took advantage of the sunshine and took a few sneaky snaps in between mouthfuls of bbq pork bun.

Speaking of, check out these monsters – which are 2 for $3.95:

They’re super fluffy and full of perfectly melty bbq pork, which made me very happy.

Round two was beef with pancakes ($15?), which I spied at another table and had to ask what they had because it smelt delicious. The beef was thinly sliced and coated in a sticky, sweet sauce which made it far too addictive. It came with a pile of pancakes, which were great but I would’ve happily just swum in a pool of the sticky beef on it’s own:

Being my birthday and the fact that my eyes are permanently bigger than my stomach, we also ordered fried beef dumplings. I am of the belief that if I can’t pick something up with chopsticks at a Chinese restaurant, then I’m not allowed to eat it – so I usually opt for fried dumplings as they have slightly better grip and are easier to pick up. I smother my dumplings with Chinese vinegar, always, and yes, while I struggled, I polished off every last one of them, because they were delicious!

On a previous visit, I ordered the pork san choy bow, which my boss ordered this time – so I snuck in a photo of this tasty dish. My only complaint is that they never give you enough lettuce cups!

While it isn’t my favourite place to eat Chinese food (that title is held by the weekend yum cha at Bodhi), it is really good grub for very little money, is BYO (no corkage!) and they’re super friendly and accommodating, especially to large groups. Taste Legend, I can’t wait for next Friday!

You can find Taste Legend hidden inside the quadrant at 74 Mountain St, Ultimo, NSW.
