Eat: Rupert & Ruby
Rupert & Ruby has closed.
Oh my god fried chicken burger, where have you been all my life? With your crunchy batter, tender thigh meat and sweet, sticky honey butter, I bow down to you. Perched atop that soft, buttery brioche, you are a work of art. Seriously, look at you, you beautiful monster:
You were served with the kind of fries drunk me dreams of: crisp on the outside, buttery soft on the inside and smothered in parmesan cheese. Oh you! You truly live up to your name, Notorious K.F.C ($15).
Your friend, the Big Poppa ($15), was equally moreish. Smoked for what seems like an age: around 10 hours, you are the envy to slow cooked meats everywhere, as you fell apart bite by bite. Why did you have to end? You crush my soul.
And that, cheapskates, is my ode to Rupert & Ruby Darlinghurst. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll get your butt down there before December 24th when they close up.
If, in the tragic circumstances, you cannot spare a moment to worship at the temple of Rupert & Ruby, fear not – you can always visit Rupert at Fat Rupert’s in Bondi. But really, really, really – you must must must go to Rupert & Ruby’s. Why are you still reading this?
Rupert & Ruby are located at 78 Stanley St, Darlinghurst
